What is Teething?
Teething is when teeth first emerge from a baby’s gums. Teething generally begins at around three months of age, with the first tooth visible between the fourth and seventh month. Most children will have all twenty of their primary teeth by three years of age.
Signs of Teething
Teething is not always painful for the baby but can be uncomfortable. Some indications that your baby is teething include increased amounts of drooling and a heightened desire to chew things. The baby’s gums may also appear to be swollen and their cheeks may seem more flushed as a result of the irritation and inflammation. The gum may be tender and uncomfortable, and your baby’s temperature may be slightly higher than usual. Please note that teething does not induce fever or diarrhoea so if your baby is experiencing such illness, it is likely a result of something other than teething and you are recommended to visit your healthcare provider.
How to Ease Teething Discomfort
Ensure to regularly wipe your baby’s face clean from drool in order to avoid the formation of rashes and irritation.
Giving your baby a teething aid to chew on will help to ease the discomfort associated with teething. Ensure that the teething aide is large enough to not pose a choking hazard and choose one made from silicone and not plastic. The Bug & Co teething beads are an excellent option.
For an added cooling benefit, pre-chill the teething beads in the fridge for a couple hours.
